Motor Vehicle Registration Extension

Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner David Curry announces the decision made by Governor Brian Kemp regarding motor vehicle registration extension.

All vehicle registrations that expire between March 16, 2020, and May 14, 2020, have been extended through May 15, 2020. This extension applies to all annual registrations, including personal passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, vehicles registered in the International Registration Plan (IRP), and Temporary Operating Permits (TOPs) issued at the time of a vehicle purchase. Registrations that expired before March 16, 2020, do not qualify for this extension

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020 the Fayette County tag office and property tax office will be closed to the public but staff will be there to process mail, answer phones, and assist in anyway that we can.

This is taken into consideration for the health and safety of our citizens and my staff.

Please feel free to call 770-461-3611 to renew your registration or visit the kiosk at Kroger on Crosstown Drive in Peachtree City.

Georgia Drives Fact Sheet

Our office is pleased to offer two new options available to taxpayers in which to make payments:

MVD Self-Service Tag Kiosk

Fayette County is now participating in a new program that we believe will be of great service to our residents who may be employed in another county, or simply wish to renew registration(s) at another location. Residents can now take advantage of a new Georgia MVD Self-Service Tag Kiosk program for a fast and convenient alternative when completing vehicle registration renewal. Fayette County is a participant in this program, but we do not house a kiosk at this time. Please see the link below for kiosk locations and additional information.

Tag Kiosks use scanning and touchscreen technology to securely update vehicle information through step-by-step instructions and optional voice assistance. Simply follow the guided on-screen instructions. After a successful renewal, documents print instantly at the kiosk.

Vehicle Tag Renewal Requirements To use a Tag Kiosk:

  1. Your vehicle(s) must be registered in a participating county.
  2. You must have a valid Georgia State driver's license.
  3. Your address must be correct on your renewal notice.
  4. You must have proof of liability insurance on file (if applicable).
  5. You must have a Vehicle Emission Inspection on file (if applicable).

If you meet all requirements shown above, you may renew up to 10 vehicle registrations per transaction at a kiosk.

There will be a $3.95 kiosk location fee and a 2.25% credit card service charge for each transaction. There is a $3.00 charge to renew your registration using a kiosk in a county tag office that houses a kiosk.

More information is available by using the following link:

Taxpayers can now use smartphone technology to access our on-line payment portal. Scan the QR code on your property tax statement to make payments using VISA, Mastercard, Discover or American Express. Please note that there will be a processing fee for each credit card transaction.

Online Vehicle Registration Renewal

Want to renew your tags online but don't know your RIN #? that's no longer a problem. Additional functionality has been added to the Internet Vehicle Registration Renewal program. RIN Retrieval will allow customers, who do not have immediate access to their Renewal Identification Number(RIN), to be able to query on the website for this information. Once retrieved, the RIN will automatically populate into the renewal program to continue with the renewal process.
Having the... RIN also allows for the customer to see the current amount due (through the online renewal program) even if they do not have a Renewal notice.
